You wake up, reach for your phone, and before your feet even hit the floor, the world is already pressing in.

The headlines are relentless… a war in Iran that no one seems to fully understand, gas prices climbing past four dollars again, groceries quietly getting more expensive, another round of inflation tightening the edges of your life.

Somewhere in the noise, there are stories about political scandals, the Epstein files, things that feel both important and impossible to make sense of.

And it all leaves you with this low, constant hum… a kind of tension you carry without realizing it.

Then You finish the day exhausted… but not from anything you can quite name.

The schedule was full. You got things done. You answered messages, handled responsibilities, showed up where you needed to. On paper, it looks like a decent day.

But you didn’t run a marathon,
or flee from a charging Rhino.

So somewhere underneath it all, there’s a disconnect.

Now you sit down to pray, and your mind won’t slow down.
You try to focus, but your thoughts scatter.
For some reason your hand feels drawn to your phone.
You wonder, not for the first time, why something that is supposed to ground you… doesn’t seem to reach you anymore.

And if you’re honest, there’s a question lingering just beneath the surface:

Why doesn’t this feel like it’s working?

A Faith That Was Given… But Not Integrated

For many of us, faith began sincerely.

We went to Sunday School and were taught to believe, to pray, to trust God. And in many ways, those foundations were real and meaningful. But what often didn’t happen… was integration.

No one really showed us how to bring that faith into the complexity of adult life.

Not into anxiety that doesn’t turn off.
Not into relationships that trigger old wounds.
Not into jobs that don’t fully value us.
Not into the constant noise and pressure of modern life.
Not into a political reality that leaves us perplexed and afraid.

So what we end up with is something like this:

A faith we believe in…
and a life that feels like it’s running on a completely different system.

The Quiet Gap Most People Don’t Talk About

This is where the frustration begins.

Because you can believe the right things… and still feel overwhelmed.
You can pray… and still react in ways you don’t understand.
You can trust God… and still feel anxious, avoidant, or emotionally on edge.

So you start trying harder.

More intention. More effort. Maybe more guilt.

And underneath it all, a subtle belief begins to take root:

If my faith isn’t working, something must be wrong with me.

Or maybe:

I just need to try harder.

But here’s the truth… and it’s one that brings a kind of quiet relief when you really hear it:

What you’re experiencing is not a failure of faith.
It’s a lack of formation.

Because your life is already being formed… every day.

Through stress patterns.
Through habits of avoidance.
Through anxiety loops that run automatically.
Through reactions you didn’t consciously choose, but learned over time.

Those patterns don’t disappear just because you believe something different.

So you end up living in two worlds at once:

What you believe…
and how you actually respond to life.

You Were Never Meant to Live That Way

The Christian life was never meant to sit on top of your real life like an overlay.

It was meant to become your life.

Not as pressure. Not as performance. But as participation in something new.

Listen to how Paul describes it:

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
— Romans 6:4 (NIV)

And again:

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
— Romans 8:6 (NIV)

This isn’t abstract theology.

It’s describing a real shift… from reacting out of old patterns… to learning how to live from a new identity.

From striving… to participation.
From fragmentation… to integration.
From survival… to resurrection life.

A Small Place to Begin

For now, don’t try to fix everything.

Just begin here:

At some point in the next day or two, notice a moment where your reaction doesn’t quite match what you believe.

Maybe it’s impatience.
Maybe anxiety.
Maybe shutting down or pulling away.
Maybe it’s failure to love your neighbor… or your enemy.

Don’t judge it. Don’t correct it yet.

Just notice it.

That simple awareness is the first step toward integration.

You Are Not Failing

Let me say this plainly, because it is deeply important:

You are not broken.
You are not failing at faith.

You were simply never shown how to live it at the level where life actually happens.

And that is exactly what we’re going to begin doing together.

This Is the Beginning of Something Larger

This isn’t a one-time reflection.

It’s the beginning of a journey.

Over the course of the Easter season, we’re going to walk step by step into what it actually means to live in the reality of the Resurrection.

Not just to believe that Christ is risen…
but to begin living as if that’s true in your thoughts, your reactions, your relationships, your daily life.

Each step will build on the last.

Slowly, things will begin to make more sense.
Patterns will become clearer.
And change, real change, will start to feel possible.

In the next issue, we’re going to look at something that may surprise you:

Your life is already forming you… every single day.

The question is not whether you are being formed.
It’s how… and into what.

If you’re reading this and something in you is saying, this is exactly where I am… then I want to invite you to take the next step.

This series is not just a set of reflections. It’s a guided journey through the Easter Season, step by step, into what it actually means to live your faith in real life.

The remaining issues in this series will be part of the paid community.

A Blessing

May you begin this journey without pressure… and without fear.

May you discover that God is not waiting for you at the end of your effort…
but present with you in the middle of your actual life.

And may the risen Christ gently lead you into a life that is not divided…
but whole.

May the divine assistance be with you and remain with you always.

Amen.
