Friends, I’m not going to lie: I am livid.

For days, the Trump machine and its echo chambers told us exactly who Charlie Kirk’s assassin must be. They said it had to be a Democrat. They said it had to be someone transgender. They said it had to be an enemy of their movement.

And their followers went with it. Internet commenters called for violence against Democrats and transgender people. They called for punishment, prosecution, and retribution. They called for blood.

The lies bore fruit.
Bomb threats were called in to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Classes had to be shut down. The DNC was threatened. Communities lived in fear because of rumors, amplified by leaders who should know better.

And now the truth is out.
The suspect is not who they told us to fear. He is a straight, white, affluent Mormon young man, raised in a MAGA household, even dressing up as Donald Trump for Halloween. He is one of their own.

Scripture is plain:

“Each tree is known by its fruit. For people do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush.”
— Luke 6:44

And what is the fruit of MAGA? The fruit of the tree watered daily by Donald Trump and his disciples? It is violence. It is fear. It is death.

This is not about politics. It is about the soul. If you have found yourself wrapped up in this movement, hear me: it will consume you. It will twist you. It will bear its bitter fruit in your life too.

The time to repent is now.
Turn back to the Gospel of life. Step away from the lies before they poison you. Do not let yourself become the next instrument of hate.

Because the tree of MAGA does not bear figs or grapes… it bears only thorns.

A Prayer for Peace and Wise Leadership

Gracious and merciful God,
we come before You weary of hatred and violence,
weary of lies that twist hearts,
weary of fear that darkens our days.

Stretch out Your hand and still the storms of rage in our land.
Break the cycle of vengeance and the fever of falsehood.
Turn us again to the way of compassion and truth.

Raise up leaders who seek wisdom over power,
justice over gain,
and mercy over cruelty.
Fill their hearts with courage to speak truth,
and their hands with strength to serve.

And in us, O Lord, sow the seeds of Your peace.
Let us be bearers of love where hatred festers,
lamplighters of hope where shadows linger,
and voices of truth where lies abound.

Through Christ our Lord,
who is our peace.
Amen.
